REAL TIME LEARNING™ (we also call it White Water Management)  is a unique learning experience developed by Dag Furst and Professor Gervase Bushe of Simon Fraser University. RTL™ combines a realistic and demanding business simulations with teaching - learning "time -outs" to gain meaningful personal learning about one's own organizational effectiveness directly from the experience. In this program, we bring real business life situations into the classroom through a unique business simulation, create high requirements to perform and high expectations for learning.

This course is a 2 to 3-day business simulation and intensive workshop about how to manage oneself, teams and organizations in constant change ("white water"). This course has been conducted with various clients with great success.

Constructive Business Conversations and Thinking Things Through

Using constructive and sensible approaches to finding solutions to a wide range of organizational issues is the foundation of our consulting practice.

What we call Constructive Business Conversations and Thinking Things Through is a core organizational skill. The ability to have meaningful dialogue with co-workers at all levels is a foundation skill for building productive work relationships and effective organizations.

In this unique process, we conduct a series of workshops from introduction to in-depth analysis.

Performance Management and Coaching

We conduct a series of workshops for how to maximize the contribution of employees through Performance Management, Competency Development, Succession Planning, Coaching and Mentoring.

Internal Workshops

We continually conduct internal seminars and workshops to help resolve organizational issues, find meaningful solutions and develop commitment to action. These are performing - learning workshops where skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, creative thinking and constructive conversation are learned as real issues are being addressed.

 Our Experience with Training

Most management  and leadership training happens away from the workplace. The assumption is that in order to learn about ourselves as managers and leaders, we have to distance ourselves from our work situation. Only by removing ourselves from day-to-day demands, is the assumption, can we reflect more objectively, gain new insights, and then open ourselves to "better" ways of performing at work.

Realities at Work

Actual experience, on the other hand, tells us that most people  have considerable difficulties translating training back to the realities of their workplace. By attending a particular training course, we may collect new concepts and techniques and many can be useful, yet real learning (sustained behaviour change) back at work regretly does not often happen. We need to recognize that training is only preparation for learning. Real learning takes place when we are doing real work in real situations.

Knowing What To Do, Doing What We Know

Naturally, acquiring knowledge is important, yet in the end we have to perform. Real learning is the ability to apply new knowledge in real life situations: to practice what we know "in the rel world". Mastery is knowing what to do AND doing what we know, in real time. The latter is the most difficult.
